The link provided by my colleague AlexV includes the QuickBooks Desktop pricing. You can scroll down to the Making Tax Digital ready with QuickBooks Desktop section, and you will see the plans (Desktop Pro and Desktop Prem).

Once you click the Buy now & save button, it will route you to the page where you can purchase the program.

I have downloaded quickbooks desktop 2021 uk version as a trial. What does one do if file sizes become large, ie > 1GB. There is no condense function available and third party services are very expensive. Can you offer some advice?

Hi Gavin18 The only thing you can do would be to create a new file. We used to offer a compression of the file but it was leading to many error and corporations so we removed the option. Please be aware that 3rd party's may cause damage to the file, so if you do use them we recommend that you take a back up of the file.

How far can one take the file size in Enterprise?

Let me guide you in creating a new file in QuickBooks, Gavin18. 

In QuickBooks Desktop, we can save multiple company files for multiple businesses and each business should have its own company file. Also, both QuickBook Pro and Enterprise version has the same steps in creating a new file. Here's how: 

1. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
2. In the No Company Open window, choose Create a new company.
3. Select Express Start if you want to get started right away. You only need to enter your business name, industry, and business type and select Create Company File to create your company. You can enter this info later on. You can also choose Advanced Setup if you want to do a complete setup so all of your info is in from the start.
4. Follow the onscreen steps to finish the setup. If you have an existing company file in QuickBooks, give your new one a unique name. This prevents QuickBooks from accidentally overwriting your data.
5. Press Start Working.

Sorry. I need to be more specific. Is there an easy way to import customers and other lists, opening balances etc from an existing file that can be decommissioned?

I can share some steps on how to easily import your list in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

You can import your Customers list, Supplier, and Chart of Accounts from an Excel spreadsheet. Before we processed, I recommend backing up your file first for safety and ensure your software is updated to the latest release. Once you have your file ready, you can follow these easy steps. 

1. Go to the File menu, 
2. Select Utilities.
3. Click Import and then Excel Files.
4. If you get the Add/Edit Multiple List Entries window, click No.
5. Follow the wizard in importing files to finish the process.

Thanks for the information. I wonder could I create a new company file and import all data from a historical cut off date, say 01/01/2018?

The condense data utility to split the files is only available on QBD US version. You may export all the transaction data as of 1/1/2018 by using an exporter tool as I mentioned earlier. Then you may import data into your new company files staring from COA, Lists, and Transactions.

Again, thanks so much for the info. I am doing some reading up on it presently. I note that standard imports dont maintain links with transactions so the only solution would be a third part tool like transaction pro.

What VAT issue? You should install the trial license for QB Desktop to verify your needs. You can also purchase a one time license of QB Desktop 2019 UK to save your money than QB Desktop 2021 UK with the subscription license.
