Hello Fran8.
For QuickBooks Mac, you can go to the QuickBooks Preferences section and update the closing date there. This way, you can edit and save the date on the transactions.
Here's how:
- Click the QuickBooks menu above.
- Select Preferences.
- In the Preferences window, click Users & Password at the bottom.
- Click the Set closing date section and edit the date there.
Please let me know how it goes. I'll be right here if you're still unable to create transactions or edit the dates.

I'm having the same problem in the new QB for Mac 2019 - today's date is 1/25/19, but QB thinks it's currently 12/31/18. How do I correct this?

Hello, Sallstott.
If this is happening to the whole QuickBooks system, try to close and relaunch your QuickBooks. However, if this happens when creating transactions, go to QuickBooks at the top, select Preferences, and select Transactions. Make sure that the use current date as default on a new transaction was checked.
Reach us again if there’s anything else you need.

Is there no way to reset current date for the whole of Quickbooks other than closing the program and restarting? I do not always close my program from day to day, and the current date will not update until I do so.

The date is not sticking
Open QBO
Invoice - date is incorrect, correct it using your description above and it works for that invoice and session
Log out log back in
Invoices
Date is still not the current
Your servers are not pulling the correct date

Hello Linden,
Unusual behaviors like this can be caused by browser-related issues. Let's do a few troubleshooting steps to see if this is the case.
Here's how:
- Try to use a private browser to see if the dates are displayed accordingly.
- If it works fine there, go back to your regular browser and clear the cache.
- Also, try to use other browsers like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Internet Explorer.
Let me know how these steps work. I'm just here if you need more help.

Found The Problem
If you process an Expense, Bill, and enter a invoice date that is anything but the current date it keeps that date system wide.
So when you go to do an Invoice the invoice date has changed from current to the date you used when entering the Bill invoice date.
Logging Off won't fix it
Shutting down PC wont fix it
Clearing Cache works as you suggested
May I suggest this is a BUG, at the very least changing from Sales to Expenses it should default to current date not some date used somewhere else within QBO

Hi,
I ran into the same problem before with quickbooks. Its your date format that is wrong on your pc - laptop, it should be the same as what the other users settings are on their machines.
On windows you can change it by going into the control panel and selecting Region, Additional settings and then date.
Regards
Quintin

Thanks for joining this thread, CRTG.
If you're trying to create transactions in QuickBooks and the date is different on your Mac computer, it's possible that the current date is not set as default in the settings. Before making any changes, let's make sure to update QuickBooks Desktop for Mac to the latest release. Then, try to close and relaunch your QuickBooks
Once done, you can follow these steps:
- In QuickBooks Desktop, navigate to the QuickBooks menu located at the top.
- Select Preferences > Transactions.
- Put a check mark on the use current date as default on a new transaction box.
After the steps above, check the transaction to see if the dates are matching.
Otherwise, you can follow the suggestion provided by doolingq to update the date on your computer settings.
Let me know how it goes and I'll get back to you.

Good day, luvee!
There's a setting in QuickBooks Desktop where you can select a default date. Let me help you!
Please follow these steps:
- Go to the Edit menu and select Preferences.
- From the General tab, select Use today's date as default from the Default Date To Use For New Transactions section.
- Tap OK to save it.
Also, update your QuickBooks Desktop to ensure you have the latest fixes and patches. If the same thing happens, run the Verify and Rebuild Data tool to fix any data issue that causes this incorrect date.
I added this link if you need more help in tracking customer transactions in QuickBooks Desktop: Get started with customer transaction workflows in QuickBooks Desktop.
Comment again here if you have other concerns. Take care!

I appreciate you joining the thread and posting your concern, @Dragan1961. I’ll help you locate the Preferences tab in QuickBooks Desktop to modify the date of your transactions.
As provided by my colleague above, here are the steps to modify the date and select a default date in your QBDT setting. I’ll be adding screenshots for your visual preferences. Here’s how:
- From the Edit menu, go to Preferences.
- Go to the General tab, and choose Use today's date as default from the Default Date To Use For New Transactions section.
- Tick OK to save.
For future reference, I’ve added these articles in case you’ll want to pull up some reports in QBDT that can give you a snapshot of your business:
You can always reply or reach out to us again if you need anything else with navigating QuickBooks Desktop or any QBDT-related tasks. We're always here to guide and assist whenever you need help. Keep safe always.
