Help matching PayPal Payments in new PayPal app

I have logged in to QBO to discover the new PayPal App. Payments from PayPal used to be automatically matched to open invoices and this is no longer happening. I have spent hours trying to figure this out and in the For Review tab under App Transactions / clicking on the payment there is no option anywhere that lets me link a payment to the corresponding open invoice. How do I do this?

You'll have to enable the Confirm Transactions feature for your PayPal payments to automatically match with open invoices, @Race-MX. I'd be glad to provide more insights about this below.

To begin with, please note that your PayPal transactions will move from the Bank Transactions tab to the App Transactions tab in QuickBooks Online (QBO), bringing all your app transactions together in one convenient location.

Additionally, you can enhance the auto transaction matching algorithm and automatic entity matching for products, services, and customers/vendors. To enable these features, simply ensure that the Confirm Transactions Automatically option is selected during your PayPal account setup.

I'll also add this article to help you reconcile your accounts so they always match your bank and credit card statements: Reconcile an account in QBO.

I am sorry but none of this is making any sense at all. There is NO Add button anywhere. The process worked perfectly well before and it has been transformed into a nightmare where multiple time wasting steps are added, that is if you can even figure out how to do it. I don't need to add another sales receipt/invoice because I have already done this before the payment showed up. There are other similar issues with this app I will just make a new thread and focus on this problem for now.

This isn't the experience we want you to have when managing PayPal payments in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Race-MX. I'm here to provide additional details and help clarify how you can effectively match PayPal payments to open invoices in QBO.

First off, I’d like to provide clarification regarding the auto-match option mentioned in my colleague's previous response. PayPal payments can still be automatically matched to open invoices in QBO. I have also asked my colleague to update his answer.

However, to enable this, make sure that the option to "Confirm transactions automatically" is turned on during the PayPal account setup.

I turned on [BETA] Add transactions to your books automatically in the PayPal app settings. This did not solve the problem.

Can you actually answer the question?

OR is it simply impossible to connect paypal to existing invoices.

I was on the phone with a QBO expert for 3 hours yesterday for this issue with no resolution. For our September transactions we have an option to match transactions but the list that comes up is all the August transactions that need to be matched. So we know they are in there and QBO/paypal can recognize them. There were a few I was able to match and once matches, they are still showing as an option to match. If you have multiple payments by a similar customer, there is a risk of applying it twice. I tried it and it let me do it. I was able to match a single payment to two different downloaded bank transactions.

For the August transactions, there is only an option to confirm (which will duplicate the transaction) or to exclude. There is no match option, nowhere to turn on a match option.

So, I have 2 choices at the moment: exclude them all and reconcile the accounts, or let them sit there until QBO fixes their mess.

I am not sure how excluding them will affect all those “unmatched” transactions that are hanging out there in the background of QBO. I can’t seem to locate the account they are in except through the match feature (when it works). However, it’s the only way I can think of to get our books closed for the month. Basically, going back to how it was originally done and not use the download feature. All our stuff is manually entered anyway. The reconciliation will tell us anything we are missing, etc.

Ive been a quickbook user from the early days when desktop was the only option. So, I’ve been through quite a few upgrades.  I have never seen a mess like this.
