Buy nowI am trying to inactivate an old bank account that is no longer used but it states "We can't make this account inactive - This account is used by a product or service". Is there a way to search all the product and service lists to see which one is being used by the bank account without having to individually go through all the hundred or more product and service lists we have?
I understand the importance of inactivating an account in QuickBooks Online (QBO), FBAbel.
Upon checking here, we have an ongoing investigation about getting an error "We can't make this account inactive. This account is used by a product and service" when making the account inactive.
I recommend contacting our Customer Care Support team so you'll be added to the list of affected users. This way, you'll receive email updates on the investigation's status and be notified once it's been resolved.
Here's how to reach them:
I've added this article to learn more about the difference between disconnection and making an account inactive:

Has this been resolved? I'm running into the same issue and as far as I can tell, the old bank account isn't attached to any products or services.
Hello there, fonewiz.
Currently, there is an ongoing investigation about unable to inactivate an old bank account that is no longer due to error message received "We can't make this account inactive. This account is used by a product and service".
I understand that this needs to be fixed as soon as possible. Rest assured, we will provide an update once information is available.
While our engineers are looking into this, I recommend contacting our Support Team to add your company details as one of the affected users. Here's how:
Know that you can always post in the Community if you have other questions. I'll be around to help.
The original ticket was created in August, it's almost January. Are you sure that this issue is really of any concern to your company? Doesn't seem like much is happening in regards to this issue if it's still a problem month's later.
I will follow your instructions to be added to the ticket but again, I can't see that it's actually being addressed.
Your instructions to contact you don't actually work. I followed your instructions 3 times, starting over each time to make sure I didn't miss anything. I think you need to update your instructions to match the actual experience on your website.
Hi fonewiz,
Yes, the issue is still being investigated by our engineers. As for the phone number, you can follow the instructions provided in this article: QuickBooks Online Support. It also has a phone number that you can call in.

Hi, has this been resolved?
Hi there, @dowzer02.
Yes, this has been resolved already. The error you're seeing happens when you try to inactivate an account that's still associated with a product or service item. To fix this, you'll need to find that item and assign it to another account.
Here's how:
Make sure to do this on all product and service items that has the account that you'll want to inactivate. Once done, you can now inactivate the desired account in the chart of accounts.
Feel free to leave a reply if you have additional questions in QuickBooks Online. We're always ready to help.
