I have a journal that is dated 14/7/22, I did some work on it today but now I cannot view it, how do I find it?

Hello there, nleric.

We can go to the journal report to locate your entry in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Then, filter the date to last year.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. In the search bar, type Journal.
  3. Click the Report period drop-down arrow and choose Last Year.

You'll now see your transactions from last year. You can also use the Magnifying glass and search the journal.

Additionally, we can review the Audit log to see the transactions you've created. It'll track all of the activities in your account, including those who made changes to your books and what they did.

Visit this link about personalising and filtering the report according to your needs: Customise reports in QuickBooks Online.

It'll be my pleasure to help you more with your journal entries. If you need further assistance pulling up other reports, let me know. Take care.

I appreciate you for following the suggested steps above, @TUSSU. This time, I can ensure you can view the journal you're looking for in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

We can review the Audit log to track the changes made to your account and to check if the journal was accidentally deleted. Deleted transactions will be completely erased from your books and won’t appear on any reports or accounts. However, you can recover it using the Audit log QBO. With that, we can review the Audit log to track the changes made to your account. The audit log shows you 150 records at a time.

To navigate to the Audit log:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Audit Log.
  2. Click Filter.
  3. Use the fields on the Filter panel to choose the appropriate UserDate, or Events filter to narrow the results.
  4. Then, select Apply.

Please see this article for details: Use the audit log to re-enter deleted transactions.

If you still can't find the journal in the Audit log, then you forgot to save it since Audit Log only works for saved information or transactions. That said, you'll need to recreate the journal you have worked on.

I've added this article for future reference:  Print a journal entry report.

Feel free to post a reply if you need more help managing your journal in QBO. I'll be around. Please keep yourself safe!

We are always available to address any questions you may have regarding your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account in this thread, Noel.

We're thrilled that you found the journal entry on your account. Let me jump in and share some details about recording your payroll wages.

The global version of QuickBooks Online does not include the payroll subscription. Thus, our Journal Entry function is the easiest way to enter your payroll's wages if your payroll is processed outside of QuickBooks. To know how the payroll liability is entered, please visit this article: Recording payroll in QuickBooks Online.

Another option is finding a third-party application to transfer your outside payroll data to QuickBooks. If there is one, you can search for it online and integrate it into your account.

Moreover, check out the following articles on how to reimburse an employee and manage other payroll data:

It was an absolute pleasure helping you today. Feel free to reach out if you ever need assistance in the future. Be safe always, Noel.

Thank you again for all your great help and advice, I have one more question I have created a "wages" template dated 14/7/22 if I make this template recurring will it automatically create a weekly template from 14/7/22 to this week (28/3/23)?

Best regards,

Noel

Hi Noel!

It's good to see you're getting the help you need and keep on asking questions about other topics. I got you on this one.

The recurring transaction feature only works on future dates. Therefore, you cannot use 14/7/22 as a starting date for the journal entry to recur. That said, your option is to reflect the paycheck information of each payroll.

On the other hand, you can monitor your Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet reports as you enter transactions to spot errors in your books. Errors can be bloated expenses or the bank balance being too low due to incorrect entries.

Let me know if there's anything that I can help you with recording your payroll transactions. Take care and have a good one!
