Truncating Social Security Numbers is still not available when printing out W2 forms in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll, cbolt. Let me help you send this suggestion to our development team and provide you with an alternative.

 

Please note that truncation of SSNs on employee copies of Form W-2 is voluntary. The SSA still requires the full SSN on Copy A of Forms W-2.

As a workaround, I recommend inviting your employees to QuickBooks Workforce, which allows them to access W2 forms with masked Social Security Numbers.

I'd also suggest sending feedback about being able to truncate SSNs on employee copies of the W2 forms. Here's how:

 

  1. Go to the Help menu, look for Send Feedback Online, and then choose Product Suggestion.
  2. Choose the type of feedback in the drop-down list for Type of Feedback and Product Area fields.
  3.  Enter a brief description of your request.
  4. Click the Send Feedback button.
