Hi there, anne. I'm here to help you switch to the old template.
Changing to the old interface in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is quick and easy. I'll show you how:
- Go to the Gear icon and choose Custom form styles.
- On the New style dropdown, select Invoice.
- Under the Design section, choose Change up the template.
- Change your invoice template.
- Click Done.
You can refer to this article for more info: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.
However, if you're referring to the old invoice layout, know that switching to an old invoice layout is available to selected users as of today.
To switch to the old invoice layout, follow these outlined steps:
- On the left Navigation Panel, select New.
- Under the Customer column, choose Invoice.
- In the upper-right corner, click the Old Layout button.
- Then, Leave.
Here are more details on how to receive and record invoice payments in QBO: Record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online.

Hi there, @annesherbs.
I understand that reverting to the old layout of invoice template is important to you. However, some users may not have the option to switch back. If you're one of those users, I suggest sending feedback to our Developer Team. They can review your request and consider including it in a future program update.
Let me walk you through on sending a feedback:
- Click the Gear icon.
- Then, select Feedback under the Profile section.
- Please provide a summary of the feature you would like to request.
- Lastly, Click Next once done.
If you have any plans to customize your form templates. Here's the topic you can utilize for reference: Use and customize form templates.
If you have any further questions about QuickBooks or anything else, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm here to assist you.

I have the exact same problem! There is no 'Layout' button. This silly new layout doesn't have certain features like 'subtotal', which I really need. Why would they force us to use a new invoice layout that is not complete?

It can be incredibly frustrating when a new layout or update doesn't include certain features that we rely on, @darrenkawa.
I see how relevant it is to have the old invoice layout back. Let's work together to help you navigate this issue and explore alternative options that meet your needs.
Going back to the old layout for other customers, especially QBO Simple Start users, currently needs to be made available. Rest assured, we're actively looking into ways to implement such a feature in the future.
To ensure it receives attention from our product engineers, I suggest using the feedback option, enabling us to enhance the program's features accordingly.
Here's how:
- Navigate to the Gear icon at the top.
- Click Feedback.
- Enter your comments or product suggestions.
- Then select Next to submit feedback.
Additionally, I'll be sharing the following articles to help personalize form templates and receive invoice payments to balance your accounts:
If you have any further thoughts or insights in the future, please reach out. We're here to listen and collaborate with you to enhance your experience with us.

Thanks for responding. I sent feedback about the problem 2 weeks ago and nothing has yet changed.

This is ridiculous. I need to be able to print packing lists, print invoices and download the invoices to my computer. The old layout worked great for that. So unless I upgrade to a more expensive version, I am held hostage? More time wasted trying to figure out a layout that isn't as user friendly as before. SMH

Hi there, mdrode. I'd gladly show you where the gear icon is in QuickBooks Online.
You can find the gear icon at the top right corner of the screen. You may refer to the screenshot below.
From there, you can access your account settings, lists, tools, and profile. You can also send feedback through the gear icon by following the steps provided by my colleague above.
I'll also leave this article in case some pages in QuickBooks are cut off so you have a better experience while using the software: Unable to see the entire page in QuickBooks Online.
You can also access our help articles for more resources in managing your company's finances in QuickBooks.
Let me know if you have any other QuickBooks-related concerns, mdrode. I'm just one post away to help you out.
