No longer have Flat rate option on invoice
When selecting a product or service on an invoice I used to have the option of either flat rate, unit, or hour. I now only have Unit and Hour. How do I get Flat Rate back?
When adding a new product I still have the option to select flat rate as an amount type but it is still not available in an invoice.

Thanks for reaching out to the Community forum, apb24. I'm here to help you rectify this issue and ensure this gets resolved immediately.
Sometimes stored cache files within your regular browser can cause an interruption in using our features. To help you fix this, let's perform some troubleshooting steps to identify any browser-related issues. Thus, I'd suggest opening your QBO trial account in a private browser. You can use these keyboard shortcuts to open one:
- Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N.
- Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P.
- Safari: Command + Shift + N.
If the same thing happens, you can try using a different browser. This could be an issue with the browser that you're using. Once it works from there, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache.
However, if the flat rate option is still missing, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. They have the tools to pull up, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.
Here's how to reach them:
- In your QBO account, click Help.
- Click the Search tab, and click Contact Us.
- Enter the error message in the description box, and select Continue.
- Start a chat with a support expert.
Additionally, I've added this guide to help you receive customer payments and enter them into your account: Record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online.
Let us know how things worked for you, apb24. You can always get back to this thread if you have other QuickBooks concerns. Have a good one!

I have tried QBO on Firefox and Chrome as well as Incognito mode in both with no luck.
I did try to resolve the problem through the chat tech support and after an hour and a half the answer I got was
"I really apologize for taking so long. Upon consultation regarding the issue, there might be an update that
Quickbooks has made. Currently no option to bring back the flat rate. A product limitation. However you may
send a feedback regarding this. I’m truly sorry to hear about your experience"

I have been trying to fix this issue too. Glad to see I’m not the only one and that I’m not going crazy thinking I did something. Hope they change it back ASAP.

Same issue here. This is very inconvenient to only leave us with the unit and hourly options for quoted items and jobs. It makes our invoices and quotes look a lot worse and unprofessional. I sure hope this wasn't an intended change or I might have to consider another platform soon.

Hello everyone.
I can see the importance of the missing feature when entering invoices in the system. Allow me to chime in and clarify things about adding a flat rate to transactions in QuickBooks Online.
QuickBooks is working as designed, and changes in the transaction setup may occur when there are updates. Changes are made for products and services to have as detailed info as much as possible hence you them by unit or hour.
Please know our product engineers provide updates and adjustments to improve the features and options for the product line items. As we assess this, I recommend sending feedback about the ads directly to our engineers.
We also make changes and adjustments based on user feedback. Here's how:
- Click the Gear icon in the upper-right corner.
- Select Feedback under Profile.
- Share your feedback.
- Hit Next to submit.
Also, you can always use our tools to create personalized and professional-looking invoices, estimates, and sales receipts. I've added a link you can check for additional guidance with customizing your sales transactions: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.
Don't hesitate to keep in touch if you have further questions or concerns about changes in QuickBooks. The Community and I will be happy to help you some more. Keep safe.

You guys should be working to bring that back immediately. You're going to have many upset customers. I use that line all time for batched materials in my small business and using the "unit" category is just when doing that and it would be way too much trouble to individually enter each unit item.

I am having the same issue. After 3 calls and over 3.5 hours spent with customer support I was finally told by a supervisor that they have removed Flat Rate as an option and have no plans to bring it back. I am beyond frustrated with QuickBooks.

I am having the same issue as well. It looks horrible to have a flat rate price be marked as unit x 1 on my customers invoices. I sent feedback to QB by clicking on the settings icon and then clicking feedback under profile. Hopefully if we all send feedback and contact support for help, this can get changed back quickly!

I will be canceling my account in the next couple days if the flat rate option is not brought back. I will also be seeking as much refund as possible. I'm 10 invoices behind and now I am realizing I'm going to have to handwrite and mail out my backlogged invoice list. I am beyond livid!!!

I have the same problem here. Customer service is unable to resolve this problem. I have to switch back to the old form until the problem is resolved. Then I can switch back to the new form. Problem has persisted since last Friday, June 23, 2023. I am told engineering is still working on this and not able to give an estimated timeframe of when the problem will be resolved.

Does your development team even use the software? This is ridiculous. I'm going to have to use Unit Price for this round of invoicing. Just add the flat rate option back already. I sure hope you get your app together.

Also, I discovered it's still available as an option on my iPhone app. So they haven't gotten rid of the feature on all platforms.

I have already spoken to customer service and a ticket was added but that was a week ago. We are in the service industry and bill by flat rate. We do sell units or work by the hour. It looks so unprofessional on our invoices. If not corrected we will have no choice but to say goodbye to Quickbooks.
