Truncated social security numbers on W2s for 2022
Has there been any change to the inability to print W2s with a truncated SSN? Will this feature be available for W-2s printed for 2022?

Thanks for posting this here in the Community, @keff. I'll share some details about printing W2 forms with shortened SSNs in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
Before anything else, know that I can see how helpful it is to be able to enter a shortened SSN. However, the option you're trying to access in QuickBooks is unavailable.
What I can do to help you is I can input the steps below so you can send a request to our Product Development Team. This way, they'll see your recommendation and consider it. To begin, here's how:
- Access your QuickBooks Desktop company.
- Go to Help, and then click Send Feedback Online.
- Select Product Suggestion.
- Choose the type of feedback by clicking the dropdown arrow.
- Enter a brief description of your request.
- Once done, click the Send Feedback Button.
Additionally, here's an article to help you print W-2 and other tax forms: Print your W-2 and W-3 forms.
You can also visit this page to for this year's instructions for forms W-2 and W-3: General Instructions for Forms W-2 and W-3 (2022).
@keff, if you have any additional QuickBooks-related concerns or need help performing specific tasks in QuickBooks. Know that you can always get back to me, and I'll be happy to assist you again. Take care, and have a good one!

My Employees are complaining that their SSNs are not truncated on their W2 forms produced by Intuit Assisted Payroll. When is this feature going to be available?

Good evening, @DawnD12.
Thanks for joining in on this thread. I hate to hear that your employee's are complaining about their SSN on their W2's are not truncated.
At this time, we don't have a specific date for when this will become available. However, I recommend submitting feedback as well so our Product Developers will see this needs to be improved as soon as possible.
I'm only a post away if you have any other questions. Take care!

Good afternoon. Is there any update on if the feature of truncating SSNs is available for filing the 2024 W-2s?

Truncating Social Security Numbers is still not available when printing out W2 forms in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll, cbolt. Let me help you send this suggestion to our development team and provide you with an alternative.
Please note that truncation of SSNs on employee copies of Form W-2 is voluntary. The SSA still requires the full SSN on Copy A of Forms W-2.
Here’s a link from the IRS for more details on this matter: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/iw2w3.pdf.
As a workaround, I recommend inviting your employees to QuickBooks Workforce, which allows them to access W2 forms with masked Social Security Numbers.
To help you through this process, I'll provide these informative articles as a comprehensive guide:
- Invite your employees to QuickBooks Workforce to see pay stubs and W-2s if you use QuickBooks Deskto...
- Get answers to common questions about QuickBooks Workforce
I'd also suggest sending feedback about being able to truncate SSNs on employee copies of the W2 forms. Here's how:
- Go to the Help menu, look for Send Feedback Online, and then choose Product Suggestion.
- Choose the type of feedback in the drop-down list for Type of Feedback and Product Area fields.
- Enter a brief description of your request.
- Click the Send Feedback button.

Please remember that the QuickBooks Team and the entire forum are always available to assist you. Whether you're processing employee payments, distributing tax forms, or handling any other year-end payroll tasks in QuickBooks, we're here to ensure that everything runs smoothly.
