Bank Connection Error 185 Reoccurring

quickbooks1.jpg

Hello,

I am having an issue with Bank Error 185: Security Info Needed.

Every time I update the transactions with my bank, this error returns.

To recreate the issue:

  • Press the update button.
  • The 185 error shows for the Webster Bank account.
  • Verify the information with the bank.
  • The transaction list updates ONCE and I am able to categorize transactions.
  • Press the update button again.
  • The error returns.

This issue prevents the users of quickbooks online (quickbooks advisors, my accountant, bookkeepers or my general staff) from performing their duties. In order to verify the bank connection with my bank, each user would need to be an authorized user with the bank's systems, which is not possible.

Please find solution to this issue.

Furthermore, I had opened a case with support regarding this issue, and it was prematurely closed without resolution. Case: [removed] CX Q: Bank connection

I understand this hasn't been easy for you, rsb-ed. I'm here to provide details to help you fix the error and get your business back on track.

The error you encounter indicates that your bank has additional security requirements that you need to address.

If you've already answered the security questions or entered the one-time password and the error continues, try accessing your QBO account in a private browser.

If your bank or financial institution asks for a one-time password, get your one-time password (on a device, through text, call, etc.), and enter it each time you see Error 185.

I don't think this is a correct response.  QBO is essentially blaming the bank for requiring MFA.  It seems to me that the real issue is that QBO does not connect to the bank using OAuth standards which would save a secure token for some reasonable amount of time (month?) once a user account is verified once.  Our QBO account will not remain connected because it relies the connection to be re-verified every time.  This is maddening and it destroys my ability to have book keepers working in QBO on invoice matching, etc.   I always get the message asking "can you update payments in QBO?"...
