Hi, davids2.
Your account register can show your bank transaction history and the current balances. This includes bank balance and QuickBooks balance. Here’s how you can access this information:
- Click the Gear icon at the top.
- Select Chart of Accounts under Your Company.
- From the list, locate the account involved.
- Click Account history under Action.
You can click the print icon at the top to print the report. You can also click the filter icon beside All for additional customization.
Reach out again by posting a question if you need anything else.

Hi there, davids2.
As I tried these steps in my reconciled account, I was able to get the account history and the current balance. You might want to check this again on a private window.
Clearing your browser’s cache or switching to a different one would be fine as well. This is to check if the overloaded files in your browser is causing the issue.
You can also run a different report to get the balance you need. Here’s how:
- Go to Reports from the left menu.
- Search Transaction Detail by Account on the search box.
- Set your desired dates and click Run report.
Please let me know if there’s anything else you need.

I just want to see running balance of one account - like a bank account - to see what balance is. what you described above prints all accounts.
What I need is say go to bank account number 1, click on that to see all transactions and running balance to date.
This should be a simple task?

Hi there, davids2.
Right now, you can only show the QuickBooks balance and the transactions when running a report for the account. If you need to show the actual bank balance from your Chart of Accounts, please know that this is not yet available.
You can try running the QuickReport available through these steps:
- Click the Gear icon in the upper-right corner, and select Chart of Accounts below Your Company.
- Choose an account.
- Click the drop-down arrow below the Action column.
- Select Run report (see screenshot below).
Please don't hesitate to reach out to me here should you need any additional assistance running the report. The Community seeks to serve you.

The account has to be sorted by date in order to see the balance otherwise, the balance doesn't show.

Hi davids2,
The steps provided to show the Running Balance for a QuickBooks account are correct and you should absolutely be able to view this balance when clicking on Account History for your bank account in the Chart of Accounts. If you have a filter on the account - eg filtering by transaction type, or Reconcile status - this can cause the Running Balance column to turn 'n/a' as you are not looking at the full transaction list. To ensure you do not have a Filter on, check above the 'Date' column and if you see 'Clear filter/View All' click this to remove the filter.
Otherwise, you may need to look at some browser options. Ensure you are using Google Chrome for the best experience with QuickBooks Online. You may need to clear your browser's cache as well:
- Hold down Ctrl+Shift+Delete and a pop-up will appear on your screen
- Select the option 'clear cached images' and make sure the other two options are unticked
- Select the time range All Time, then Clear Browsing Data
- Once this is complete, the pop-up will disappear. Please restart your browser and log in once more
If after following these steps you are still unable to view your Running Balance, I would recommend you reach out to our Support Team directly on 1800 046 038 for further investigation.
