I have QB 2014 for Mac. Every time I login to my company it crashes. What can I do?

I've gone through and updated everything.  I'm using OS X El Capitan version 10.11.3 (15D21).  I've restarted my computer, shut it down and unplugged it for a while, and tried opening a backed up file but it says it can't open file.  I can open QB sample company just fine.  I would go through verify data and such if I could get it opened but haven't been able to successfully do so.  My pass word is correct...so thats not an issue.  Crash Catcher pops up "An error has occurred and QB must quit" and a smaller box pops up and says "Quickbooks quit unexpectedly."  I'm at a loss as to what to do.

Has this been resolved? I have the exact same problem. I get the crash catcher with this and now cannot log into my iMac.  However, my qb still works on my macbook pro.  Please help if someone has a solution or if you have had the same problem.  Thank you!

The recommended answer worked for me:

"The crash in QB running on El Capitan is related to a window left minimized when exiting QB. Some users have had success deleting pref files, but be advised your year version is not supported on your OS.

To delete the pref files

1. Quit QuickBooks if it is running.
2. In the finder hold down the option key and click on Go->Library
3. In the Library window that opens double click on Preferences
4. Drag ALL files of the form com.intuit.quickbooksxxxx.plist to the trash  (where xxxx is a year, like 2015, 2014, 2013, etc - make sure you delete all of them!)
5. Relaunch QuickBooks"

***I was told to prevent it from happening to not minimize any QB windows.  I accidentally did a few times here and there and started haveing the same problem.  So, I followed the step by step instructions again and it took care of it.  I hope this helps!

Thank you so much!  I followed the steps and it worked perfectly!  Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!  Is there something I should be doing or not doing to prevent this issue from popping up again?

Avoid minimizing any QB windows to the dock. That is the only issue I have seen here related to crashes and ElCapitan.

I have updated my QB 2014 with the latest update. NOW when I click on my QB file - that is on a Mac-OS Server, it now opens Mac 2014 Server, which I have never used before.  I have done the "delete pref. files" as suggested. It did not solve this issue.  If I copy the file to my desktop, and open the company file from the Qucikbooks 2014 app - it runs fine. It will not open, if the file is on my Mac OS X Server . I just updated to 10.11.3 - El Capitan.

I do not see Go->Library in Finder. What else can I do?

You won't see library without holding the option key, Go is in the menu bar.

I am having the same problem. I have QB2014. I've tried the suggestions and nothing is working. Do I need to upgrade to 2016? My pref list for QB 2014 is blank. The other version I have is QB 2011 that has text.

Are you on El Capitan? Have you tried the steps above to clear the preferences?

Yes and I have tried the steps. The plist for 2014 is empty. I tried opening the 2014 Trial version and it also crashes.

Empty isn't the same thing as deleted.  Quit QuickBooks.  Drag the 2014 plist to the trash. Drag the 2013 and any other year plist to the trash as well.  Then launch QuickBooks again.

In 2015 run QuickBooks->Check for Updates. In earlier versions those instructions still apply or it may be a different issue (start a new thread if it is a different issue... when does it crash, etc)
