When using the app on my iPhone to snap receipts I need to be able to select Cost of Goods Sold in the categories - the iPhone app will not let me do this?

Hi office275, thanks for joining the Community :) - are you receiving a specific error when saving the receipt with this category selected, or is the account not available to select?

I have the same problem - "cost of sale" categories (such as "laundry" for our hair salon) don't show as an option to select, only 'expenses" categories...

Hello there, Tony.
I've successfully selected Cost of Sales as a categorisation on the receipt on my sample file. That said, let's run some troubleshooting steps to fix this issue.
For Andriod:
- Go to Menu ☰, then tap More Options ⋮.
- Tap Settings, then Refresh Data.
- Tap YES to confirm.
iOS:
- Go to Menu ☰ and tap Help & Feedback.
- Tap Refresh Data.
- Tap Refresh to confirm.
If the issue persists, I recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the mobile app. It allows you to start over with the app.
Please follow the steps below to proceed:
- Tap and hold the app on your phone.
- Drag the app to the Uninstall section.
- Select Yes to confirm.
Once done, visit these links to reinstall the QBO mobile app:
- Android app via Google Play.
- iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch apps are via the iTunes App Store.
- Get the download link through SMS.
See this for detailed instructions on reinstalling the QBO mobile app: How to download the QuickBooks Online mobile app.
In addition, once everything's good, you can visit this article to learn more about recording your receipts and bills from suppliers: Upload your receipts and bills to QuickBooks Online.
In addition, QuickBooks not only allows you to record business expenses but also sales data. You can get a more complete picture of your company's performance and profit by entering your income and expenses. You can learn everything from this article: Enter and manage expenses in QuickBooks Online.
I'm just around whenever you have concerns with QuickBooks.

Hi there,
Having the same issue. Tried all the troubleshooting solutions but did not work.
Please help.
There is no dropdown menu to categorise the receipts. The only option it gives to is link to a bank transaction which I do no wish to do.

Categorising your receipts is important to keep your record accurate, Coach Kofi.
Since none of the troubleshooting steps you've performed fixes the issue, I recommend contacting our Live QuickBooks Support Team. They are equipped with tools to help them conduct further research in a secure environment and create a ticket if necessary.
Here's how:
- Go to Help and select the Assistant tab.
- Type in Speak to a human.
- Click the Contact a human button.
- Choose Live Chat/ Call me back.
- Enter your concern in the What can we help you with? field.
- Select Chat with us to start a conversation with our live representative.
You can also directly contact our Live QuickBooks Support Team using this phone number: 0808 234 5337. To ensure you'll be assisted on time, please see our support hours.
In the meantime, I suggest categorising the receipts using supported web browsers. Here's how you can do it:
- Login to your QuickBooks Online account.
- Go to Transactions, then select Receipts.
- In the For review tab, you can review your uploaded receipts and bills. QuickBooks lets you know if it finds existing transactions in your books that match your uploaded receipts or bills.
- Check the labels in the Action column to find out what steps you need to take next.
Additionally, please continue manually associating the receipts with the bank entries. To become more familiar with managing receipts, refer to this article: Categorise online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.
Furthermore, check out these resources to review and secure the accuracy of your books moving forward: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.
Feel free to ask if you have more questions about categorising transactions. We're here to help and will gladly provide assistance whenever you need it.
