I want to move back to desktop version, how can I do that.

I'm here to help you move your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop, Hanson.

You can install QuickBooks Desktop on your computer first if you haven't done so. Then, follow these steps:

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Open QuickBooks Desktop, navigate to File, and select Close Company. Keep QuickBooks Desktop open while completing the steps.

Next, sign in to QuickBooks Online and download the migration tool.

  1. Log in to the QuickBooks Online account you want to convert using a supported browser, ensuring you use your Intuit Account credentials.
  2. You will be directed to the Export Overview page. Take a moment to review it, and if needed, you can print it out for reference. Click Get Started to proceed.
  3. Download the QuickBooks Desktop migration tool by selecting the Download tool option.
  4. Once the tool has been downloaded, open it to start the installation process and click Next.
  5. Agree to the terms of the license agreement and select Next.
  6. Choose Complete as the setup type and then click Next.
  7. Finally, click Install and then Finish to complete the setup.

For detailed information on the steps, refer to this article: Move your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.

@hanson0315

When did you convert your data to QB Online?

Which QB Desktop year version did you use?

thanks, very helpful.  I got the export file done, downloaded via the migration tool, and imported into Desktop.  Now, even though I see the latest transaction in the checking account view, the checking account balance is way off off by a huge amount and shows a negative $70k balance, perhaps it's missing a bunch of deposits or there's some other problem.  Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

update 1:

including screenshots of desktop vs online. I did check one deposit from 2017 and it's in QB online but is missing from desktop.

Update 2:

I re-downloaded the file again through the whole process, but still the same. Looks like it’s missing a bunch of deposit.

Your data is too complex to be converted by the built-in conversion tool. You may want to consider purchasing a third-party service to convert it. You can contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA via email directly for assistance.

I have some ways to settle this balance and ensure your transactions are intact, @hanson0315.

Please know that when converting data between QuickBooks versions, some data might not transfer due to export limitations. To address this, you can either manually adjust the entries or import the missing deposits into QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

To import the data, follow the steps outlined in the Connect with Web Connect (.QBO) files section of this article: Set up or edit bank accounts for Bank Feeds in QuickBooks Desktop.
