Thanks for joining us here in the Community space, @Toni O. Rest assured, we will promptly address this concern to ensure the feature functions properly.

Before we go any further, I want to know if you are referring to the Chart of Accounts or the categories under Product and Services.

We recognize the importance of efficiently utilizing the program without any difficulties. Occasionally, QuickBooks may exhibit unusual behaviour due to browser-related issues. In such cases, you can resolve the problem by following some basic troubleshooting procedures.

Let's perform some troubleshooting steps to fix this. It could be that the stored cache and cookies are the reason why you encounter unexpected browser-related crashes. To isolate this issue, let's start accessing your account using a different browser or enabling private browsing mode.

You can use the shortcut keys below:

  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + H

After logging in and creating the category successfully, go back to your primary browser and clear its cache. This will help expedite future transactions in QuickBooks Online. Alternatively, you can use other compatible browsers as well.

As a workaround, you can also edit the categories in the "All lists" under the List section.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then click All List.
  2. Under the List section, choose Product Categories.
  3. Click the Edit from the Action column.
  4. Make some necessary changes.
  5. Once done, tap the Save button.

This article also goes into more detail on products and services categories.
