Allow me to provide additional insights about having the message on the invoice to show on your reports in QuickBooks Online.

At this time having the message on the invoice to appear on the report isn't available. Only the information from  the Message on statement section will show up. The reason behind this is that the option indicates your official statement about the details of invoice.

However, the Message on invoice box contains a default special note that you'd like to extend to your customer. The information can be set up from the Accounts and Settings section on your account and on the template.

To have the invoice description to be displayed on the report, you'll need to enter them from the Message on statement box.
