Buy now@Please_Stop_The_Modern_View , thank you for saying so well what I, and probably a lot of us here, were thinking. My husband and I used to get our taxes done by the same CPA every year...had done it for 20 years and had inched up from $150/year to $500/year (very simple return, obviously, and this was at least 30 years ago when this happened) and when we went in to sign and pick up the finished return, he handed us a bill for $3000...and it was essentially the same as it had been for several years prior. We asked why, and the explanation was that there was a major revision in the tax code and he'd had to spend a lot of time learning the new laws, was simply passing along the unbillable "learning" hours to his clients, split up between them, and our share was about $2500. My husband was an electrician, and he'd gone to the CPA's home numerous times to wire a remodel or an additional shop, boat dock, etc. He said to the CPA, "so you are charging us what it cost you to deal with the new code?" and the CPA confirmed it. My husband pointed out that electricians have to keep their license current with continuing education, done on their own time after work, and that the National Electrical Code is revised every 3 years and electricians are responsible for knowing the code and all its changes. "So by your logic, every time I come out to your place to wire something, I guess I have to charge you at least triple what I have been charging, because you will be paying for my education to keep my job, if I have to pay for your education to keep your job." The CPA changed the bill back to $500. Essentially, that is what this suggestion that clients be charged for whatever inconvenience time is necessary to do their otherwise usual work, because of QBO's ill-timed and poorly executed rollout of the Modern View (which I believe happened in January, but didn't hit everyone between the eyes until March when tax season was getting really hot--and of course, as of yesterday, it was still in the way of getting our work done normally with classic view practically taking 3-4 times as long to access). As you said, it isn't appropriate for your clients to pay extra because QBO did what they did--and so badly.
BTW, I am the one being called Karen. Not my name, and apologies to any lovely person with the actual lovely name, "Karen", but if he/she saw me, the reaction would probably be laughable. He/she said I should basically stop banging away on my keyboard and get a life, and that I should read before I write. I'm likely more than twice that person's age, can still accurately type faster than I can think, and was in college when Ralph Nader (American pioneer in Consumer Protection and Law) was cutting his teeth. As far as I am concerned, the only two people on earth who were ever entitled to scold me have departed more than 40 years ago, so his/her misspelled, grammatically-incorrect chidings landed on deaf ears and were more a reflection of who he/she is than what I was doing "wrong" in my efforts to get something fixed that was bothering me--and many others, and for which I was paying. So I, the "internet troll", as I was called, am quite comfortable, having said what I have said online about the problem.
My only two goals in posting on this message board were (1) get QBO to respond, to assist us with getting the Classic View as a default if we wanted it, and (2) to express support for those who are frustrated with the Modern View, to let them know they are not alone feeling like a crazy person because they (and I) can't figure out what on earth has happened to our usual QBO routines. It was never about anything else.
I hope your anti-greed ethics remain steadfast and that you thrive.
