I think the gist of many of us here is that we aren't like QBO/Intuit AT ALL. We don't want to become like them. We aren't greedy, money-grubbing, bottom-of-the-barrel, whatever can put a Prada in my hands, kind of people. We aren't the small business owners who think that they can be a business owner AND just miraculously understand accounting, something many of us have spent years learning about and continue to as well, since many of us are bound to CEUs.
This nonsense of charging customers more is exactly why I'm poor; I'm not going to be like the greedy capitalistic monsters that Intuit turned into. You know, it wasn't always like this. Does anyone remember Quicken? I do. I was a little girl, playing office with my mom at her plumbing company, and she asked me to help enter some things. I know how silly that sounds, but it's the truth, I began using Quicken when I was 14, and that was, GULP, 26 years ago. I've done nothing but sing QuickBooks praise over the years. I moved all of my clients from Desktop to Online. I encouraged people to sign up! I mean, I didn't hate them, and I understand business needs to make money because we do live in a capitalistic society where we must earn to survive. Well, record profits? When most of us can't figure out how to put food on the table? I bet these marketing experts got big fat bonuses...
And you are telling us, many of us freelance bookkeepers working at home under stressful circumstances, to just raise prices and our customers will just accept that? Some might. Many might not. And then we have to do that simply because QBO's marketing team decided to change the aesthetics of something that nobody asked for?
No, that's not acceptable. I'm not going to turn into a piece of crap so that Intuit's executives can buy their Teslas and own their lofts in San Francisco. No, and I think it's pretty crappy that this entire platform is geared towards small business owners who rarely have a net profit to begin with...and they just keep raising prices and they have you, another customer, calling us Karens? In an accounting forum? What does that even mean? Sorry to anyone with the name Karen. Jeez. Keep that out of here. We don't need to turn on one another. Leave that for Twiitter, Facebook, and Reddit.
Anyway. I refuse to just accept what I'm given, and I've been playing with Xero and Zoho. Not a huge fan of either, if I'm being honest, but I think that's because trying to import QBO info into theirs is getting all mixed up. I highly recommend those who can, try to go elsewhere. If anyone has any suggestions for a freelance bookkeeper who doesn't have many clients, please share here.
Thanks to everyone contributing to this conversation and NOT turning on each other, name calling, and essentially telling us to suck it up and be like QuickBooks.
