Hello there. tad151.

I can see how important for you and your business to reorder the accounts of your chart of accounts. Currently, this option isn't possible in QuickBooks Online. Instead, you can sort the list in ascending or descending order.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Accounting from the sidebar menu, then Chart of Accounts.
  2. You can click the NAMETYPEDETAIL TYPECURRENCYQUICKBOOKS BALANCE, and BANK BALANCE to sort the lists.
  3. Select ↓ to sort it in descending order or ↑ to sort the registers in ascending order.

Alternatively, you can use the account number to organize your chart of accounts. You'll need to enable this feature if you want to assign a number to your accounts. I'll show you how.

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then Account and settings.
  2. Select the Advanced tab.
  3. Click the Edit pencil icon in the Chart of accounts section.
  4. Select Enable account numbers.
  5. Hit Save and then Done.

For complete instructions, check out this article: Use account numbers in your chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online.

Once everything is in place, you may want to use this resource as a reference for seamlessly matching your accounts: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.
