I have followed these steps:

Go to the Help menu and click Update QuickBooks Desktop. Select the Options tab and click Mark All, then Save. From the Update Now tab, make sure Critical Fixes is checked. Put a checkmark on the box inside Reset Update, then click Get Updates.  When the update finishes, close and reopen QuickBooks Desktop. To install the updates, select Yes. Restart your computer when the installation finishes.

However, when I restarted QB, there was no question about installing updates. My 1099-NEC information is all correct, but when I try to print 1099-NEC forms, I get this error - see attached. 

I will do another hard boot of my computer to see if that solves the problem. However, since I only had four forms to print, I just used the fillable form on the IRS website. I still need to print the ones to send to the IRS, so I will continue this process.
