You can use any type of bar code gun scanner as long as it supports the following:

• EAN-13 (International Article Number, formerly European Article Number) and Code-128 barcodes.
• Your scanner produces a single carriage return at the end of the barcode.

You can also search for a specific brand on the internet and test it in QuickBooks. Simply perform the following steps to see if it's compatible with the product. 

Once you've tested your scanner, you can now an item to fill out any of your transactions as a new line item.
