Most responses I see, not just mine, explain how to see retained earnings in QB and its technical definition. And most posters already know this information. I came here for the deeper insight.

I am simply looking for information on if and why adjustments would be made to retained earnings. The reason I feel there is confusion in my mind is that "Retained Earnings" is a misnomer. It does not necessarily reflect money in the company coffers but rather a yearly running total of profits/losses. An important number but not always reflective of "Retained" given that distributions are not taken into account.

From you and also a different thread I learned that there should be no adjustments made to "Retained Earnings". Hopefully, that information will help others.
