Make a Customer Inactive (with associated Project and time entries)

I want to make an old customer inactive. The customer has a project associated with it - we use the project feature so that we can run a Project Profitability Report. In order to make the Customer Inactive, I know that I have to delete the associated project. When I try to delete the associated project, I get the following message:

We can't delete this project yet

Remove any time entries linked to the project and try again.

I confirmed that the time entries are not marked as Billable, we have that setting turned off and when I run an Unbilled Time & Expenses Report for the project, there is zero data. I have tried a private browser window and also tried clearing my cache. No success. I do not want to manually delete every time entry associated with the project for several reasons. First, the data is real and should exist. Secondly, this would be very time consuming to do for every completed project and will also require us to open our books back up from prior months. How can I get around this?
