Hello, ccw2_orangeca.

I appreciate your time voicing out your feedback with regard to the security. Let me chime and provide you with additional information on the importance of password security in QuickBooks Desktop software.

The password security when accessing a company file in QuickBooks is an extra layer of security that is implemented in all Intuit products, not just with QuickBooks. This way, your data gets protected as well as your customers’ and employees’ information recorded in QuickBooks.

That said, all users who have the Credit Card Protection feature on, or whose QuickBooks Desktop file contains sensitive data such as credit card data or PII will be asked to set up a password to verify that the person attempting to access the account is authorized to view such data.

QuickBooks detects the presence of the following data and ensures strong control:

  • Employee and Employer Social Security Number
  • Employer EIN
  • Employer Bank Details (Routing Number, Account Number)
  • Vendor Tax ID

You can find out more about our security update here Guide to Protecting Customer Data. To learn more about what Intuit does to keep your data safe at http://security.intuit.com/
