Allow me to join the thread and help share some insights about making expenses as billable in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @Trekqualmie.

As of now, there isn't an option to mark expenses as billable in QBO Essentials. Recording billable expense is only available in QBO Plus and Advanced.

If you wish to track expenses as billable, you may consider upgrading to the versions stated above.
