Hello there, OldMichiganAI. You can mark the items as unbillable in an old bill once the Make expenses and items billable feature is turned on.

Since you've downgraded, may I know what is your current subscription plan? If you're using Simple Start or Essentials, this feature is unavailable in these plans. Therefore, you won't be able to mark items as unbillable and, consequently, cannot make the customer inactive.

However, if you've downgraded from Advanced to the Plus subscription, here's how you can ensure the Make expenses and items billable option is enabled:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Choose Account and Settings.
  3. Select the Expenses, and go to the Bill and Expenses section.
  4. Click Edit, and toggle on the Make expenses and items billable option.
  5. Hit Save, then Done to save the changes.

Activating this feature will display the Billable column on the Bill page. Once this is visible, you'll be able to mark items as unbillable and proceed with making the customer inactive.
