Order that Sub-Customers show up in customer list

Is there any rhyme or reason to the order that sub-customers show up under the parent customer? The only way that I've found to get a list of all of the subjobs (I think!) under the main customer without having to scroll through the 116 pages of customers in the main customer list is to search for the customer name, click on it, then search for the name again in the different-looking customer list that pops up after my first search. (That's a whole other issue itself. Why in the world is it that hard to get a list of subjobs?!?)

But, when I do that, the subjobs seem to show up in alphabetical order until I scroll down far enough to get to the end of the alphabet, then it starts over again. In the customer I was just working with that has 100-ish subjobs, it had five separate sections that were in alphabetical order. That makes it really hard to scroll through to find a specific subjob when you can't know that you have scrolled down to that part of the alphabet.

In addition, if I search for that customer in the main customer list and hit enter, it just comes up with a list that includes 57 of the 100-ish subjobs, which is also extremely not helpful.

And final question, how can I be assured that all the subjobs are showing up, when the two ways I am able to search come up with different results?
