There are a few reasons why direct deposit is unavailable for that pay period, bluefringeboutique. I can provide the details and assist you in switching the payroll pay method.

QuickBooks Online Payroll follows a specific lead time to ensure timely fund transfers. It varies depending on your Payroll plan, where submissions must be made on time, since Intuit doesn't process them on weekends or state or federal holidays. If you miss these deadlines, direct deposit cannot be processed, so you'll need to pay the employee with a paper check. For more info, read about when to send your payroll based on your direct deposit lead time.

After verifying the DD processing time, let's go to the employee's profile and navigate to Employment details to select the Pay schedule ▼ dropdown and change the payroll period. If using Auto Payroll, you can only make updates after removing them first in the Payroll Settings, located under the Gear icon.

On the other hand, once a paycheck has been created, the pay period cannot be edited. In this case, reach out to our Live Support Team for assistance with fixing incorrect pay period dates on paychecks.

Finally, you can switch back to direct deposit by updating the employee's payment method in their profile, provided you run the payroll before the designated deadline to check the modifications.
