As of May 31, 2024, QuickBooks 2021 was discontinued. If you didn't upgrade your product yet, you won't have access to live technical support or other Intuit services that can be integrated with the product.

You should still be able to use your product offline without any add-on services if you're not on a subscription version. Since you're receiving a message saying the license has expired, and are unable to open a company file, I'd initially recommend trying a clean install.

Here's how:

  1. Download the installer for your version of QuickBooks.
  2. Have the license number handy. It should be on your original package. If you bought it online, it will be in the product confirmation email. You can also obtain this information from your account management portal.
  3. Open the Windows Start menu and search for "Control Panel".
  4. Open Control Panel.
  5. Go to Programs and Features or Uninstall a Program.
  6. From your list of programs, choose the version of QuickBooks you want to remove.
  7. Select Uninstall/Change, Remove, then Next. If you don't see your Uninstall/Change option, try signing out and back in to Windows as an admin, or a user with administrative rights.
  8. When you're finished, install QuickBooks.

In the event you're still unable to open company files, you can continue troubleshooting with your QuickBooks Tool Hub. If it continues after trying each recommended troubleshooting process, you'll want to get in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up the account in a secure environment, conduct further research with you, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

I've also included a couple detailed resources about working with QuickBooks which may come in handy moving forward:

I'll be here to help if there's any additional questions. Have a great Thursday!
