I'll ensure you can get your Desktop version to update by following the steps below.
If you're referring to keeping your current QuickBooks up-to-date so you have the latest features and product improvements, you can follow the steps below.
- Select Update available and choose Install now to install the update.
- Sit back and relax while the update is being installed. It might take a while for the update to be installed.
- Open QuickBooks once the update is established.

However, if you mean to upgrade to the latest version of QuickBooks due to your current version being discontinued, you can click Upgrade Now. This is usually seen as a prompt message when you open QuickBooks. Then, you can follow the steps below.
- Choose Keep old version on my computer if you want to keep your current QuickBooks and select Let’s go. QuickBooks downloads, installs, and activates the new version for you. It updates your company file(s).
- When the upgrade is done, select Open QuickBooks.
If you didn't see a prompt to upgrade, you may use the Discovery Hub to complete the process. You can open this article on how to perform the procedure: Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus, or Enterprise.
