Just an update.  I had QuickBooks Premier Plus 2021.  I called the sales line and was able to get the 2024 Premier Plus desktop edition.  As we all know, you can no longer just purchase the software.  They only offer the subscription and the price is much higher than we've historically paid.  For 3 users, my cost was $2384.82 for the year.

The sales guy I spoke to confirmed that the desktop version is going to be phased out.  I spent a week or so evaluating other options.  I find my business is too big for QB online.  We're a large doctor's office.  I don't bill from QB. And QB online is geared towards non-accountants running their business.  As an actual accountant, I loathe the lack of flexibility in QB online.  So QB online and other similar options aren't feasable.  But it seems the next option is to go with a full ERP system, which is significantly more expensive (starting at $15-20k/year) and includes features we are too small to need.

When you browse the QB website, the only desktop subscription option available is Enterprise.  I balked at that cost because 3 users without taxes was over $3000 for the year, but even that is a fraction of the larger ERP options.  The intuit salesman confirmed that while the other renditions of desktop are indeed going away, Enterprise is here to stay.  I know that may not be good news for smaller businesses.  But if anyone has a mid-size business that's too big for QB online but too small for some of those other options, knowing that Enterprise is sticking around is a big relief.
