Hello there, dfelix60.

I'll be sharing further information on how connecting accounts works in QuickBooks Online. Let me also ensure you can manage them on the program smoothly.

Please know that before connecting to online banking, you need to know how your bank sends the downloaded transactions. If the entries download to one account, connect only the parent account. If the transactions are imported to the individual accounts, connect the subaccounts.

With the stated details above, both the parent account and its subaccounts cannot be linked or connected to QBO. This is the reason you get a message that the account is already set up for Online Banking or Web Connect. To fix this, I recommend disconnecting the account first. Then, you can change it to a sub-account before reconnecting it to online banking. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu and proceed to the Banking tab.
  2. Select the account that needs to be changed to a sub-account.
  3. Click the pencil ✎ icon, then select Edit account info.
  4. Select the Disconnect this account on save checkbox.
  5. Click Save and Close.

Lastly, you can read this article if you need steps on how to match or add downloaded entries to avoid duplicate data in QBO: Categorize online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Please let me know in the comment section if you still have concerns about connecting your bank or credit card to QuickBooks. I'll be here to lend a hand, dfelix60. Take care always.
