Stumbled upon this thread as I have a enterprise solutions for retail v9 (is that 2009?) that needs to be updated to the latest.

At present, is all the info on this thread still applicable?

IE...back up company file > upgrade in 3 year intervals and back up in between until reaching 2020+?
