I'm so sad to read all these, as I'm now having same issues.  Made backups, went on 10 day vaca, came home and neither company file will open.  And neither backup would restore.  One of my older backups did restore for one of the companies, but the screen continues to lock up upon opening with Unrecov Error message.  Wish I could go back to my old 2015 desktop version.  Anyone have a permanent fix to this yet?? And what exactly does "suppressing" the desktop mean? I don't want to screw up anything worse than it already is.
