Hello there, Pelican. Let's ensure you're able to open your QuickBooks Desktop seamlessly.

 

You're likely experiencing an installation or company file issue, which causes the freezing problem in QuickBooks. Let me guide you through some troubleshooting procedures to rule this out.

 

  1. Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release so the program has the latest features and fixes.
  2. Ensure the file you want to open is a company file (.QBW). You can't access other file types, like backups (QBB) and portable files (QBM) the same way.
  3. Make sure your file isn't compressed or encrypted:
    1. Right-click the company file and hit Properties.
    2. Select Advanced.
    3. Remove the Compress and Encrypt checkboxes.
    4. Click on OK.
