I can help you get rid of the setting that opens a new invoice after closing a transaction, Helene. Let me walk you through the process.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), we have an auto-recall feature to pre-fill transactions. Here's how you can turn it off:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Account and settings.
  2. Choose Advanced.
  3. In the Automation section, select the pencil icon.
  4. Turn off the Pre-fill forms with previously entered content switch to disable the auto-recall feature.
  5. Click Save at the bottom of the Automation section, then Done to record your changes.

Otherwise, you'll want to ensure that you choose Save and Close when saving a transaction, instead of Save and New. This way, it prevents the system from opening a new transaction after saving.

This article will help you account for your customer payments: Receive an invoice payment.

On top of that, we have various reports that you can pull up to help you track your business: Use auto-recall to pre-fill transactions in QuickBooks Online.
