Hello there, afstam1.

In QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), syncing data from your desktop to your laptop may fail due to several reasons:

  • Hosting settings are not properly configured.
  • A firewall or antivirus software might be blocking the connection between computers.
  • The database server is unable to access your company file.
  • File permissions in Windows may not be set correctly.

If your desktop and laptop are on the same local network, you can follow these steps to sync your data using multi-user mode:

  1. Install the QuickBooks Database Manager on your main computer. By doing this, you will share your company's files with other computers on your network.
  2. Set the Windows admin rights to change your firewall settings and folder permissions.
  3. Scan your folder using the Database Server Manager to access your file over the network.
  4. Turn on hosting on your server computer:
  • Go to the File menu and hover over Utilities.
  • Select Host Multi-User Access. Then click Yes to confirm.

To access your company file to your laptop, follow the steps below:

  1. Open your QBDT on your laptop.
  2. Go to File, click Open or Restore Company.
  3. Select Open a Company File.
  4. Browse the network folder containing your company file and open it.

For detailed instructions on setting up multi-user mode, please visit this link: Host your company data in multi-user mode in QuickBooks Desktop.

If your desktop and laptop are not on the same network (e.g., in different offices or locations), you'll need to set up remote hosting instead. You can refer to this link for more details.

In addition, with Intuit's support declining to assist due to a company mismatch, there may be a discrepancy in how your account was registered. You can verify it by accessing this website: https://camps.intuit.com
