While updates in QuickBooks Desktop can take a few minutes, the delay you're experiencing is caused by the real-time scanning feature of Microsoft Windows Defender. QuickBooks updates require changes to the operating system as part of its security protocols. 

 

To resolve this, I recommend adjusting Windows Defender's settings to allow the update to proceed. You can easily do this through the QuickBooks Tool Hub.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Select the Cancel button to stop the update and close the software.
  2. Download and install the QuickBooks Tool Hub application.
  3. Open the app and proceed to the Installation Issues menu.
  4. Click Add Defender Exclusion.
  5. Make sure to restart your computer to apply for the exemption.
  6. Reopen the software and start the update.
