I'd love to help you with that, Dav01.

Moving your QuickBooks Desktop to another computer can be a bit tricky, but if you follow these guidelines carefully, you should be able to do it without any issues.

Let's make sure you have a backup of all your QuickBooks data. This is essential to ensure you don't lose any important information during the transfer process. Once you have your backup, you can proceed with installing QuickBooks on your new computer. From there, you'll need to restore your data from the backup you created earlier.

Once you finish backing up your files, you'll be able to utilize the Migrator Tool to transfer your QuickBooks Desktop files to another computer. To access this tool, you'll need to have Company Admin. This tool is designed for those running a single-user edition of QuickBooks Desktop 2018 or newer within the United States. The Migrator Tool will migrate up to three company files seamlessly and efficiently.

Since you're using an old QuickBooks Desktop version, I suggest updating your QuickBooks. This way, you have access to new features and improvements. Here's how:

  1. Go to Help and tap Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Click Update Now, then select Get Updates.
  3. When the update finishes, close and reopen QuickBooks.
  4. When asked to install the update, select Yes.
  5. When the install finishes, follow the on-screen instructions.

Once you are done updating your QuickBooks, we can start utilizing the Migration Tool. I'll show you how to do it:

Step 1: On the old computer

  1. Access the File menu in QuickBooks, select Utilities, and choose Move QuickBooks to another computer.
  2. Opt for I'm Ready and create a unique password.
  3. Follow the instructions to select the USB flash drive you'll be using and wait for the files to be copied.

Step 2: On the new computer

  1. Insert the USB flash drive. Keep in mind the Migrator Tool won't automatically open due to Windows security restrictions.
  2. Open the flash drive to view its files and double-click the file named Move_QuickBooks.bat to initiate the migrator.
  3. Enter the password you created, and click Let's Go.
  4. Wait for the Migrator Tool to complete the process.
