I have the same issue that an account needs to change from a 1099-MISC to a 1099-NEC.  The solution of adding another account is inappropriate.  Creating extraneous accounts is not a good accounting practice.  It will be confusing in the future.  What do you tell the readers of the financial statements?  QuickBooks couldn't get the IRS forms correct so I had to add another account!
