I'm here to help you locate your previously filed W3 using QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @Dougc83.

Your QBDT forms and files can be found in your C Drive from your File Explorer. The C drive holds the storage media for your downloaded application software, system file, and device driver. You can utilize the search box provided in the upper right corner of your File Explorer.

If you're still unable to find it by using this method, let's go ahead and do a wild card search on your computer server. Using this procedure will help us discover the data you're finding by using a unique character.

When doing this, I recommend including the asterisk (*) to ensure that you're searching for the correct files on your computer. Here are some examples of the extension type:

  • *.qbw (Working Files)
  • *.qbb (Back-Up Files)
  • *.qba (Accountants Copy Files)
  • *.qbx (Accountants Transfer Files)
  • *.qby (Accountants Change Files)

You can find these in the Windows (C:) folder. Let me guide you on how to get there.

  1. Beside the Windows icon, search for File Explorer.
  2. Go to This PC.
  3. In the search box on your upper right corner, search for the date you want to find. Ensure you've included the asterisk (*) before the extension type to locate all the files.

If you've previously filed your W3s using our program, I recommend contacting our support team so they can help you in getting these forms. Our customer care team can share all that data if you can't pinpoint them on your computer.

You can also check this article if you want to analyze what you've paid out in your QBDT payroll: Create a payroll summary report in QuickBooks.

Please don't hesitate to get back to me if you need further help in finding those W3s. I'm always available to help you out.
