Let's make sure to click this link to update your QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release before following the steps below. When you notice any odd behavior in your Chart of Accounts or the Write Checks option, re-sorting will help you fix them by making your lists go back to its default order.

To re-sort from the Banking menu, here's how:

1. Go to Banking > Write Checks.
2. Select the Pay to the order of field and press Ctrl+L on your keyboard.
3. Click the Name drop-down menu, and select Re-sort List.
4. Select OK.
5. Close and reopen your company file.

From the Chart of Accounts page, you can follow these steps:

1. Click Lists > Chart of Accounts.
2. Select the Account drop-down menu, and choose Re-sort List.
3. Hit OK.
4. Close and reopen your company file.
