This solution worked.  Super annoying that I had to trudge through years' worth of support banter and useless Intuit support suggestions to find they had implemented a solution to this problem.  As others on this thread have suggested, adding data to our books without the ability to opt out or delete the resulting data is ridiculous and frustrating.  And Intuit Support, save your breath, making a vendor inactive IS NOT the same as deleting it - a feature that is actually needed.
