I had already turned off pop-up blockers.  I have tried to connect with Safari, Firefox and Chrome, all with the same result (see screenshot previously posted).  I suspect the problem is that HSBC no longer supports new connection requests from QuickBooks.  I will call them one last time tomorrow but will have to cancel my subscription if this cannot be resolved.  I have spent several hours on this today and cannot spare anymore time on this.
