To ensure the accuracy of your accounts, you'll want to keep a record of all your transactions. Thus, it's a best practice to record them in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.
In regards to your direct debits expenses, you'll want to record them so can reconcile your accounts and bank statement seamlessly. I'll show you how.

Editing the list in the Business Purpose drop-down isn't possible in QBO. You'll want to work with your accountant for guidance on what category to choose in covering your cause.
