A .QBB file is a backup file designed to preserve a snapshot of your company's financial data at a specific point in time, SlimPlaty.

When you attempt to restore this backup file on a different computer, QuickBooks automatically creates a new local file to prevent overwriting or accidentally modifying the original backup.

There are also two primary options for setting up your client's computers to connect to a single QuickBooks company file.

You can use the Multi-user mode feature to set up one computer as a host to store the company file. Then, the other computer as a client to connect to it over a local network. This option requires an additional user license on the client's account, and for both computers to be on the same network.

You can read more details about this option in these articles:

If the second computer is in a separate location, you can use the remote hosting option. This means that the company file will be hosted on a third-party remote server. Then, both computers would connect to that server to access the single company file, using a service like a QuickBooks hosting provider.
