VAT
Thanks for joining the Community forum, @mickb1967. I'd be glad to help you connect to HMRC so you can file your tax returns in QuickBooks. Let's perform some troubleshooting steps to get this fix.
You'll want to disconnect the Making Tax Digital(MTD) in QuickBooks Online since you can't connect to HMRC. This will refresh your connection so you can file your tax return in QuickBooks:
To do so follow the steps below:
- Click the Gear icon, and then choose Account and Settings.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Go to the MTD section, and then choose Learn how to disconnect.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process.
Once done, reconnect your MTD. Then, submit your VAT returns again as you normally would.
If the issue persists, a cache-related problem is probably preventing you from connecting to the HMRC website to submit your VAT return. That said, I suggest performing the steps through a private/incognito window as it will not save any history, making it a good place to identify browser problems:
- Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N.
- Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P.
- Safari (for new versions): Command + Shift + N.
From there, log in to your QBO account, then connect to the HMRC website. If you're able to process your returns, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. Clearing the cache or cookies is the best way to get a clean slate for your browser. Otherwise, using other supported browsers can be a good alternative too.
If everything's fine, you can run some VAT-related reports to track of all your returns. Just go to the Taxes menu, and then choose the desired report from the View reports drop-down.
If you have any other questions about the HMRC connection, please let me know by leaving any comments using the Reply button. I'll be here to lend a hand. Take care and stay safe.
