Welcome to the Community, @SteveLio.
I'll share information about e-filing 1099 and W2 using QuickBooks Desktop.
No you don't need to sign up or register with the IRS, Social Security, or any other authority before e-filing through QuickBooks Accountant Desktop. QuickBooks will handle the electronic filing process for you, and you can submit your W-2s and 1099 forms directly through the software without the need for separate registrations with the government authorities.
For W2, there is no filing fee, while there is a filing fee for the 1099 in QuickBooks Desktop. You will be routed to a payment page before you can complete the e-filing. When filing, you can choose the way you want to file the 1099.
You can select your preferred method of sending copies to the recipients/vendors by checking the box under USPS Mail or Email Recipient. You can also choose to Download Multiple PDFs to provide vendors with their copies. Please note that selecting USPS Mail incurs an additional fee.
After selecting your state(s) for filing, proceed to the next step or click the Calculate Tax1099.com Fee to view the total filing fee. Once you have completed the options on the Select Forms page, you will be directed to the Payment page. After entering your payment information, click on Pay & Submit to e-File.
For future reference, you can read these resources to guide you in e-filing 1099, and get answers to your questions about it, and to correct W2 forms:
