Allow me to share some insights with you about the QuickBooks Desktop(QBDT) layout designer not being saved.
When you're not able to save your created template, possibly your template is damaged. But, you can restore it if you backed it up when it was still working.
If you're not able to restore it, the best option is to recreate the template.
You may also update your QBDT and PDF reader to have all the features working. Refer to these articles:
