Let me share additional information about how QuickBooks Online (QBO) downloads transactions from American Express accounts.
QBO downloads new American Express transactions 2 or 3 times a week instead of every night. If you need them sooner, you can manually download your latest transactions as suggested by Mark_R.
If you get the same result after the manual update, sign in to your bank’s website to check for alerts or any announcements which can potentially block QuickBooks from downloading new transactions. If you updated anything on your bank’s website, like your account number, username, or password, update QuickBooks as well.
Then, if you encountered error messages, please refer to this article and go directly to Step 3: Fix specific download errors. This link provides commons errors you'll encounter and their steps to resolve them.
However, if you're trying to download American Express Open transactions, we have opened a new investigation with regards to the connection of the app. Since there's no workaround yet, I recommend contacting our Support Team so they'll add you to the notification list of affected users.

- Enter your concern about AMEX bank connection.
- Then, click Let's talk.
- You have the option to Start a message or Get a callback from us.
